Room Data Sheets SmartTool

Release time:2024-04-10

Room data sheets (or RDS) are used to record the details and requirements for each space on the project. They are usually prepared by the client during the briefing (also known as architectural programming in the US) phase of the design process, but may also be updated during the design process to reflect the changing requirements, or to provide an improved and more precise picture for those responsible for executing the project.

The Room Data Sheets SmartTool is an accurate and efficient sheet view and scheduling tool that allows you to create room (or space) data sheets within the Revit project. The tool can generate 3D, plans, elevations, and schedule views for rooms or spaces that are named parametrically and numbered on new sheets.

The tool will default to the Room Numbering Template and Sheet Format that are determined by the Revit Project. However, you can select an alternative sheet style and name from the Tool Options tab. Click “Load Configuration …’ on the toolbar to replace current settings with previously saved configurations. This helps reduce the amount of manual work required to change the settings for different room types and sizes.

The tab ‘Naming’ permits the user to choose whether the chosen room/space is included in the Sheet Name text box which appears on the left side of the screen. “View Name” is the text that appears in the title bar for each view, while ‘View Increment:’ specifies the increment between each view when it is placed on the sheet. The ‘Spacing’ option lets you to control the space between each view. The Exclude Titles from Estimating View Sizes for Sheets’ option will prevent titles from being included in the calculation of the number of views on the sheet.
